Château Calon-Ségur

The wine label of Château Calon-Ségur famously features a large heart encircling the estate's name, along with the traditional Bordeaux chateau illustration. This design pays homage to the 18th-century owner Marquis de Ségur, who famously declared, "I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is at Calon."

Château Calon-Ségur holds the prestigious rank of Troisième Grand Cru Classé (Third Growth) in the official 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It is located in the northernmost appellation of the Médoc region, specifically in the Saint-Estèphe commune.

The estate's flagship wine is a classic Bordeaux blend heavily dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, often making up over 70% of the final cuvée. This high percentage of Cabernet contributes to the wine's intense tannins, deep color, and exceptional aging potential.

For over a century, the estate was owned by the renowned Gasqueton family until it was sold to the French insurance company Suravenir in 2012. Despite the change in ownership, the chateau continues to operate with a strict commitment to traditional, high-quality winemaking.
