Chateau Rauzan-Segla

Château Rauzan-Ségla is a Second Growth winery located in the Margaux appellation on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. It should not be confused with its direct neighbor, Château Rauzan-Gassies, which is a separate estate. The vineyard sits on deep gravel soils that are perfectly suited for ripening Cabernet Sauvignon.

The château was purchased by the Wertheimer family, the owners of the Chanel fashion house, in 1994. Their significant financial investment drastically improved the estate's facilities and wine quality. John Kolasa was famously brought in as managing director to oversee the vineyard's modern renaissance for the luxury brand.

The second wine of the estate is called Ségla, which is made from the grapes of younger vines rather than the older Grand Vin blocks. It offers a more approachable, fruit-forward drinking experience without the extensive cellaring requirement. Ségla is often aged in a lower percentage of new French oak barrels to preserve its fresh red fruit flavors.

As a classic Margaux, it is known for its elegant, perfumed aromas of violets, blackcurrant, and cedar wood. The wine features refined, silky tannins that integrate beautifully as the bottle ages over 15 to 20 years. It is often considered one of the most structurally powerful and vibrant wines produced within the Margaux appellation boundaries.
