Château Trotanoy

Château Trotanoy is located in the Pomerol appellation on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, France. The estate sits on the famous Pomerol plateau, sharing the gravel and clay terroir with legendary neighbors like Château Pétrus. Its name, meaning "tiresome" in French, supposedly refers to the difficult, heavy soil that is incredibly hard to work.

The vineyard is predominantly planted with Merlot, making up about 90% of the estate's vines, with the remaining 10% dedicated to Cabernet Franc. The heavy, clay-rich soil is particularly well-suited to Merlot, allowing the grapes to reach extreme ripeness. This combination results in deeply colored, full-bodied wines with massive structure.

Château Trotanoy has been owned by the renowned Moueix family since 1953. The family also owns the famous *négociant* house Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix and manages nearby Pétrus. Under the Moueix family's strict guidance, the estate has significantly modernized its viticulture and winemaking facilities.

Trotanoy produces incredibly structured, powerful wines that demand significant aging to reach their peak expression. Most vintages require 10 to 15 years in the bottle to allow their firm tannins to soften and reveal their complex layers of dark fruit. Top vintages can easily continue evolving gracefully for 30 to 50 years.
