Chessgi

description Chessgi Overview

Chessgi is a chess variant invented by Ralph Betza in 1964 that adds a shogi-style re-entry rule to orthodox chess. When a player captures a piece, the captured unit changes sides and is kept in a reserve; on a later turn, the player may drop it onto a vacant square instead of moving a piece already on the board. Standard descriptions restrict some drops, including a rule that a pawn may not be placed on the eighth rank.
