City Palace, Udaipur

City Palace is in Udaipur, Rajasthan, on the eastern shore of Lake Pichola. Its lakefront location is part of why the palace complex is one of Udaipur's best-known landmarks.

Construction is traditionally associated with Maharana Udai Singh II, the founder of Udaipur in the 16th century. Later Maharanas of Mewar expanded the complex over several centuries.

Visitors typically see palace courtyards, balconies, mirror work, murals, and museum rooms connected with the Mewar royal family. Named areas often discussed by travelers include Mor Chowk and the palace museum sections.

They are separate landmarks, but both are tied visually to Lake Pichola. City Palace sits on the shore, while Lake Palace is the famous white palace on Jag Niwas island that now operates as a luxury hotel.
