Topkapi Palace

Topkapi Palace is located in Istanbul, Turkey, sitting on the tip of the Sarayburnu promontory overlooking the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara. It served as the administrative center of the Ottoman Empire for nearly 400 years.

The palace is renowned for its Imperial Treasury, which houses priceless artifacts like the 86-carat Spoonmaker's Diamond and the Topkapi Dagger. The Harem section and the collection of Islamic holy relics are also major highlights for tourists.

Construction began in 1459 shortly after Mehmed II conquered Constantinople. It served as the primary residence of the Ottoman Sultans until the mid-19th century, when they moved to the more modern Dolmabahçe Palace.

The Harem was the private living quarters of the Sultan, his wives, concubines, and children, heavily guarded by black eunuchs. It was a highly regulated and complex section of the palace featuring hundreds of rooms and royal apartments.
