Civilization IV

Civilization IV was developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games in 2005. The legendary game designer Soren Johnson served as the lead designer, taking over the franchise from its creator, Sid Meier. It was the first game in the main series to be built entirely on a 3D engine using the Gamebryo technology.

Players can achieve victory through several different paths, including military conquest, technological superiority, and cultural dominance. To win the Space Race, players must research the necessary technologies to build and launch a spaceship to Alpha Centauri. Players can also win a Diplomatic victory by securing enough votes to become Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The game received two major expansion packs: 'Warlords' in 2006 and 'Beyond the Sword' later that same year. 'Beyond the Sword' is particularly notable for focusing heavily on the late-game experience, adding new units, technologies, and espionage mechanics. The standalone game 'Colonization' was also released in 2008 using the Civilization IV engine.

As a turn-based strategy game, players guide a historical civilization from 4000 BC all the way to the modern space age. The gameplay focuses on deep empire management, exploration of the map, and engaging in complex diplomacy with rival nations. Players must balance scientific research, cultural development, and military expansion to ensure their empire thrives.
