Clásico Tapatío

The Clásico Tapatío is a major Mexican football rivalry contested between Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Chivas) and Atlas F.C. Both clubs are based in the Guadalajara metropolitan area of Jalisco. It is the oldest continuous football rivalry in Mexico.

The matchups represent a deep cultural and social divide within the city of Guadalajara. Historically, Chivas was viewed as the team of the working class and nationalists, as they only field Mexican players. Atlas, conversely, was seen as the club representing the wealthier, more European-oriented elite.

The rivalry first took place in the early 20th century, with official matches dating back to the 1910s and 1920s. The long history of the fixture predates the formation of Mexico's professional league. It remains one of the most passionate and heated derbies in Latin America.

The matches are usually hosted at the massive Estadio Akron for Chivas and the Estadio Jalisco for Atlas, depending on the designated home team. Both stadiums are located within the Guadalajara metropolitan area. The venues regularly reach full capacity whenever these two local giants collide.
