Codium tomentosum is a dark green green alga found on European Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts. Its thallus has a soft, spongy texture and consists of cylindrical branches that divide repeatedly in a dichotomous pattern. The plant can grow to about 30 centimetres in length and is attached to rocky coastal surfaces, where its rounded branching form distinguishes it from flatter seaweeds.
