description Columbia STS-107 Overview

STS-107 was NASA's 113th Space Shuttle mission and the 28th flight of the orbiter Columbia. Launched on January 16, 2003, it carried a SPACEHAB research module and conducted experiments in microgravity and Earth and space science. During reentry on February 1, Columbia disintegrated over the southern United States, killing all seven crew members. The investigation found that insulating foam from the external tank had struck the left wing during launch and damaged its thermal-protection system.
