Commix - Be True

"Be True" was released in 2007 on the prestigious Metalheadz label, founded by pioneering DJ Goldie. The album marked a significant milestone for the Cambridge-based duo. It successfully blended the dark, technical aesthetic of Metalheadz with a smoother, more technoid sound.

The album was released in September 2007 to widespread critical acclaim within the drum and bass community. It was their debut full-length album, establishing them as major players in the scene. The record has since been regarded as a classic of the mid-2000s liquid and techstep crossover era.

Commix originally consisted of producers George Levings, Guy Brewer, and Conrad Shafie, though Shafie left before the release of "Be True." The remaining duo of Levings and Brewer crafted the distinct technoid sound featured on the album. They were heavily involved in the vibrant Cambridge drum and bass scene alongside artists like Logistics and Nu:Tone.

The title track, "Be True," is widely considered a genre-defining anthem with its soulful vocal hook and driving bassline. Another major track is "Urban Legend," which features a darker, more neurofunk-influenced production style. These tracks showcase the duo's versatility in merging deep atmospheres with dancefloor energy.
