The common checkered-skipper, Pyrgus communis, is a butterfly in the skipper family Hesperiidae. It occurs across much of North America and is recognized by the pale checkerboard markings on its dark wings, although its appearance can vary between individuals and regions. Adults visit flowers for nectar, while the caterpillars feed on plants in the mallow family, including species of Sidalcea and related genera.
