Common Emerald

description Common Emerald Overview

The common emerald, Hemithea aestivaria, is a geometrid moth found across much of Europe and parts of Asia. Adults have green wings crossed by fine pale lines and bordered by a characteristic white fringe, although the color can fade in older specimens. The species is nocturnal, and its larvae feed on a range of deciduous plants and shrubs. It is encountered in woodland edges, gardens, and other habitats where its host plants grow.
