Brimstone Moth

description Brimstone Moth Overview

The Brimstone Moth, scientifically known as Opisthograptis luteolata, is a medium-sized insect belonging to the Geometridae family, widely distributed across Europe and parts of Asia. It is easily recognized by its bright sulfur-yellow wings, marked with distinctive small brown spots, which serve as camouflage against predators. Unlike many moth species, it frequently rests with its wings held flat against the surface, adopting a posture similar to butterflies. The larvae primarily feed on the foliage of deciduous trees such as hawthorn and blackthorn.
