Common Carpet

description Common Carpet Overview

The common carpet, Epirrhoe alternata, is a geometrid moth distributed across much of Europe and also recorded in parts of Asia. Adults usually have brown or gray forewings marked by contrasting pale bands, although the species varies in color and pattern. It may be seen flying during daylight or after dark, and its caterpillars feed on bedstraws and related plants in the family Rubiaceae. These traits make it recognizable both by its wing pattern and by the plants used by its larvae.
