Courrèges

Courrèges was founded by André Courrèges in the early 1960s, after he trained and worked at Balenciaga. His eponymous label quickly became the face of Space Age fashion, defining a futuristic aesthetic that defined the decade.

André Courrèges is credited—alongside Mary Quant—as a primary pioneer of the miniskirt and go-go boot in the 1960s. His Spring/Summer 1965 collection introduced stark white, geometric silhouettes with A-line dresses, flat white boots, and visor sunglasses that became iconic of the Space Age look.

Courrèges pioneered the use of synthetic materials in high fashion, including vinyl, PVC, and metallic fabrics that were previously associated with industrial applications. He paired these with bold geometric cuts and a palette dominated by white, silver, and primary colors to achieve his futuristic vision.

Courrèges was relaunched as a fashion house in the 2010s under creative directors Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, who attempted to revive the brand's futuristic heritage for contemporary audiences. The label has undergone subsequent creative direction changes as it continues to navigate the challenge of honoring its 1960s legacy in modern fashion.
