Crotalocephalina

Crotalocephalina has earned the popular name "rattlesnake trilobite" because of its distinctively segmented genal spines. These intricate spines closely resemble the segmented rattle of a rattlesnake's tail. It is one of the most visually striking species of trilobite.

These distinctive trilobites are primarily found in Morocco. Moroccan quarries are world-renowned for producing incredibly detailed and well-preserved Devonian fossils. Specimens from this region are highly sought after by collectors.

Crotalocephalina is a cheirurid trilobite. Trilobites in this family are typically characterized by their robust exoskeletons and prominent spines. They were active predators or scavengers on the ancient sea floor.

Crotalocephalina lived during the Devonian period, which is often referred to as the Age of Fishes. They thrived in the warm, shallow marine environments that covered much of what is now North Africa. They eventually went extinct during the Late Devonian extinction event.
