Crowheart Butte

In 1866, a battle occurred at Crowheart Butte between the Crow tribe and the Eastern Shoshone, led by Chief Washakie. The conflict was reportedly over hunting rights in the Wind River region of what is now Fremont County, Wyoming. The butte's name derives from historical accounts that Chief Washakie displayed a Crow warrior's heart on his lance following the battle.
