CTB 1

description CTB 1 Overview

CTB 1 is a large, faint supernova remnant in the constellation Cassiopeia, identified through radio observations in 1960. It consists of an expanding shell of material produced by a stellar explosion and is also visible at optical wavelengths, especially through emissions from ionized oxygen and hydrogen. Amateur astrophotographers sometimes call it the Medulla Nebula because of the filamentary appearance revealed in long-exposure images.
