Daniel Garrison Brinton was an American physician, anthropologist, and ethnologist who lived from 1837 to 1899. He taught anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania and became an important nineteenth-century scholar of Indigenous peoples of the Americas, especially their languages, histories, and traditions. His work belongs to an early period of academic anthropology and also reflects racial classifications and terminology that are no longer accepted in contemporary scholarship.
