Dassault Falcon 50

The Falcon 50 features a three-engine configuration—two rear-mounted turbofans and one central engine fed by an S-duct—to enable transatlantic flights. Dassault Aviation specifically designed it in the late 1970s to meet the range requirements for crossing the ocean while complying with the extended-range twin-engine operations regulations of the era. This layout provided added safety for long overwater flights.

The French long-range business jet officially entered service in the early 1980s, following its first flight in the late 1970s. It was later updated with the Falcon 50EX model in the 1990s, which featured upgraded avionics and engines. The aircraft remained in production for several decades.

The aircraft is capable of flying roughly 3,500 nautical miles (about 6,480 km) without refueling. This impressive range makes it a popular choice for transatlantic and transcontinental business travel. Its aerodynamic design, including a supercritical wing, contributes to its fuel efficiency.

The jet was developed and manufactured by Dassault Aviation, a prominent French aerospace company. Dassault is globally recognized for its fleet of business jets as well as its military fighter aircraft, such as the Rafale. The Falcon 50 remains one of their most iconic early long-range designs.
