help Datto SIRIS FAQ

How does Datto SIRIS protect against ransomware?

Datto SIRIS takes automated backup screenshots after each snapshot and can alert administrators when anomalies suggest ransomware encryption has occurred. If a production server is compromised, administrators can spin up virtual machines directly from the SIRIS appliance or from Datto's cloud, enabling rollback to a known-clean backup state within minutes.

What is the difference between Datto SIRIS and Datto Backupify?

Datto SIRIS is an on-premises hardware appliance combined with cloud replication, designed to back up servers, workstations, and on-prem infrastructure with local and off-site recovery options. Datto Backupify is a separate cloud-to-cloud backup service that targets SaaS applications like Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace and does not involve an on-premises device.

Did the Kaseya acquisition change how Datto SIRIS is sold?

Kaseya completed its acquisition of Datto in 2022 for approximately $6.2 billion, integrating Datto products into the Kaseya IT Complete platform. SIRIS continues to be sold through Managed Service Providers and Kaseya's partner channel, with development focused on tighter integration with Kaseya's RMM and PSA tools.

Can Datto SIRIS do instant virtualization of failed servers?

Yes, SIRIS can boot protected virtual machines directly from the backup appliance's stored snapshot, a feature known as instant virtualization or local virtualization. If the local appliance is also unavailable, the same VM can be failover-booted from Datto's cloud, providing business continuity during a site-level disaster.
