help Daum Mail FAQ
Is Daum Mail the same service as Hanmail?
Yes. Daum Mail is the successor to the service historically known as Hanmail, and users may still have addresses ending in @hanmail.net. Kakao's service supports both @daum.net and legacy @hanmail.net addresses.
Who owns Daum Mail?
Daum became part of Kakao through the 2014 merger of Daum Communications and Kakao. Daum Mail is therefore operated within Kakao's wider internet-service business.
Can Daum Mail be used with Outlook or another mail app?
Yes. Kakao documents support for IMAP and POP3, and recent notices say users may need to create an app password for external clients. The exact settings and account requirements should be checked in the current Daum Mail help pages.
Can I still receive mail at an old Hanmail address?
Kakao has stated that users with a Daum address can receive messages sent to both @daum.net and @hanmail.net versions in supported account setups. Whether a particular legacy account is active depends on its account status and any required Kakao account integration.
