description David Purley Overview
David Purley was a British racing driver who competed in Formula One during the 1970s. He entered four Formula One races in the 1978 season, driving privately entered cars rather than representing a major works team. Purley is also remembered for his attempt to rescue fellow driver Roger Williamson after a fatal accident at the 1973 Dutch Grand Prix, and for suffering serious injuries in a practice crash at Brands Hatch.
