description Denbigh Castle Overview
Denbigh Castle is a medieval fortress in Denbighshire, Wales, begun in 1282 by Henry de Lacy, Earl of Lincoln, during Edward I’s campaign against the Welsh princes. Its most distinctive defensive feature is a large gatehouse with three towers, combined with curtain walls, a postern entrance, and town walls. The hilltop ruins are cared for by Cadw and present the castle as part of the wider history of the conquest of Wales.
