Detectorists

Andy Stone and Lance Stater are metal-detecting hobbyists hoping for Saxon treasure, Roman finds, or even just something better than ring-pulls. Their club, the Danebury Metal Detecting Club, is fictional, but the hobby details are central to the show's charm.

Mackenzie Crook created, wrote, directed, and starred in the series as Andy. Toby Jones co-stars as Lance, and the show originally aired on BBC Four from 2014 to 2017.

Danebury is fictional, although the series is strongly rooted in rural Essex and Suffolk landscapes. The made-up town lets the show build its own local history around farms, fields, pubs, and possible buried Saxon treasure.

The main run has three series and 19 regular episodes, followed by a feature-length 2022 Christmas special. The special aired on BBC Two on 26 December 2022.
