description DIWATA-1 Overview

DIWATA-1 was the Philippines' first microsatellite, launched to the International Space Station in March 2016 and subsequently deployed from the station's Kibo module in April of that year. The approximately 50-kilogram satellite was developed through a cooperative program between the University of the Philippines Diliman and Japan's Tohoku University under the Philippines' emerging space technology initiatives. It carried multispectral imaging cameras and a high-precision telescope designed to support environmental monitoring, weather observation, and disaster response efforts in the Philippine archipelago.
