Druva can cover VMware workloads, but it changes the operating model from customer-managed repositories to a SaaS backup platform. A Veeam team used to managing proxies, repositories, and storage sizing should validate restore workflows, network throughput, and retention policy mapping before switching.

Druva protects SaaS data sources such as Microsoft 365 and Salesforce without requiring a separate backup server in the customer's data center. That matters because Microsoft 365 retention policies are not the same thing as an independent backup and restore system.

In Druva's case, cloud-native usually means the backup control plane and storage are delivered as a managed service rather than installed as local backup infrastructure. The practical difference is that admins configure policies for sources like endpoints, SaaS apps, and virtual machines instead of maintaining physical backup hardware.

Druva emphasizes immutable, isolated backup copies so attackers cannot easily modify protected restore points. The important test is not the marketing term but whether your team can restore a real Microsoft 365 mailbox, endpoint, or VM within its required recovery time.
