description Early thorn Overview
Selenia dentaria, known as the early thorn, is a moth in the family Geometridae. It is distributed across northern Europe and parts of the wider Palearctic. A distinctive feature is the adult resting posture, with the wings held pressed together and upwards behind the back, resembling a butterfly. The larvae feed on woody broadleaved plants, including hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel and bog myrtle, and the species produces two generations in much of its range.
