description Eldey Overview
Eldey is a small, steep-sided volcanic islet in the North Atlantic, located about 10 miles off Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula. It is a tuff cone, a type of volcanic formation made largely from consolidated ash and fragmented rock. Eldey is also associated with the last confirmed killing of great auks, which took place there in 1844, making the uninhabited rock an important site in the history of species extinction.
