Fatfreq is a boutique audio company based out of Singapore, and all of their in-ear monitors are handcrafted there. They specialize specifically in custom and universal in-ear monitors for demanding audiophiles and musicians. The Grand Maestro houses a complex multi-driver hybrid setup, specifically utilizing a dynamic driver for the bass and multiple balanced armatures for the mids and highs. This driver separation ensures that the massive bass response does not bleed into and muddy the vocal frequencies. It is a highly technical acoustic arrangement.

While their low impedance means they can be driven directly by a smartphone, they sound significantly better with a dedicated portable DAC/AMP. A quality dongle DAC, like those from iFi or Fiio, provides the necessary current to control the dynamic bass driver properly.
