description Festung Kufstein Overview

Festung Kufstein is a historic hilltop fortress strategically positioned above the Inn River in the Tyrol region of Austria. Its origins trace back to a document in 1205, and it was significantly expanded in the 15th century under Emperor Maximilian I, who reinforced the structure to assert Habsburg control over the region. The fortress was historically contested between the Duchy of Bavaria and the County of Tyrol.
