When was the present Flamborough Head Lighthouse built?
The current lighthouse was built in 1806 and first lit on December 1 of that year. An earlier chalk tower was erected nearby in 1669 but was never lit.
Can visitors climb Flamborough Head Lighthouse?
Public tours have been offered seasonally at the lighthouse, subject to operating schedules and weather. The tower is 26.5 metres high and stands on a much higher chalk headland.
What does Flamborough Head Lighthouse warn ships about?
It marks the prominent Yorkshire headland for deep-sea vessels and coastal traffic heading toward Scarborough or Bridlington. It does not stand inside the Humber estuary.
Is Flamborough Head Lighthouse still staffed by keepers?
No. Trinity House automated it in 1996, after electrifying the station in 1940.
