description Fort Knox Overview

Fort Knox is an active United States Army installation in Kentucky, south of Louisville. It was historically associated with armored-force training and formerly housed the U.S. Army Armor Center and School, which later moved to Fort Benning under military base realignment. The neighboring United States Bullion Depository, operated by the Department of the Treasury, stores a large portion of the federal government's gold reserves and is separate from the Army post.
