description Georges Danton Overview

Georges Danton was a prominent orator and statesman who played a leading role in the early stages of the French Revolution. He was a co-founder of the Cordeliers Club and served as the first president of the Committee of Public Safety, helping to organize the defense of France against foreign invasion. However, he later opposed Maximilien Robespierre's radical escalation of the Reign of Terror. Consequently, Danton was arrested and executed by guillotine in April 1794.
