Georges Schwizgebel

Georges Schwizgebel is highly regarded for his experimental, painterly short films, frequently painting with acrylics directly on glass or canvas. This technique allows him to produce fluid, continuous transformations of color and form without traditional cell lines.

The Swiss animator has enjoyed a career spanning more than five decades. He began directing short films in the 1970s and remains a highly influential figure in the independent animation community.

While he is a celebrated figure at international film festivals, Schwizgebel is perhaps best known in the Oscar circuit for his short film 'The Girl on the Motorcycle'. However, his work like '78 RPM' and 'Jeu' actually dominated major European festival circuits like Annecy and Cannes.

His visual style is characterized by morphing characters, shifting perspectives, and a seamless flow of abstract imagery set to classical or jazz music. He rarely relies on dialogue, preferring to let the evolving painted visuals drive the narrative rhythm.
