Giaconda

Giaconda was founded in 1982 by Rick Kinzbrunner, an Australian winemaker who trained and worked in Burgundy at estates including Domaine de la Pousse d'Or before establishing his vineyard in Beechworth, Victoria. His Burgundian training heavily influenced Giaconda's winemaking philosophy, particularly the focus on natural acidity, subtle oak integration, and site-driven Chardonnay.

Giaconda Estate Chardonnay is widely considered one of Australia's benchmark white wines, frequently compared to top white Burgundies for its combination of power, finesse, and longevity. The wine is barrel-fermented with natural yeasts and undergoes extended lees aging, producing a textured, complex style that has influenced a generation of Australian Chardonnay producers.

Beechworth is a wine region in northeast Victoria, Australia, situated in the foothills of the Australian Alps at elevations around 400–600 meters. The region's cool continental climate, with significant diurnal temperature variation and granitic soils, makes it particularly well-suited to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, distinguishing it from warmer Australian wine zones.

In addition to its flagship Estate Chardonnay, Giaconda produces a Pinot Noir from the same Beechworth estate vineyard, a Shiraz sourced from slightly warmer sites, and a smaller-production Nebbiolo. The estate also makes a skin-contact 'Skin Contact' white blend, and all wines reflect Kinzbrunner's Old World-influenced, low-intervention approach to winemaking.
