GKE Enterprise

description GKE Enterprise Overview

GKE Enterprise extends Google Kubernetes Engine's capabilities to on-premises and cloud provider environments, providing consistent management, security policies, and observability across hybrid or multi-cloud deployments.

help GKE Enterprise FAQ

Is GKE Enterprise the replacement name for Anthos?

GKE Enterprise launched in November 2023 by bringing GKE and major Anthos capabilities into one integrated platform. Google still uses the Anthos name for underlying hybrid and multicloud technology, while access is increasingly organized through GKE and Google Distributed Cloud.

Can GKE Enterprise manage Kubernetes clusters outside Google Cloud?

Yes: its fleet model can cover clusters on Google Cloud, AWS, Azure, and supported on-premises environments. Attached clusters offer management visibility and policy capabilities without converting every cluster into a Google-hosted GKE cluster.

What does a GKE fleet add to ordinary Kubernetes clusters?

A fleet groups clusters so teams can apply shared identity, configuration, policy, networking, and observability. Features such as Config Sync, Policy Controller, and Managed Service Mesh address controls that plain Kubernetes does not standardize across multiple clusters.

How is hybrid and multicloud GKE usage priced?

Google prices many hybrid and multicloud features according to the number of cluster vCPUs under management, with rates differing for AWS, Azure, attached clusters, and on-premises deployments. Infrastructure charges from providers such as AWS remain separate from Google's management fees.
