Gravicalymene

description Gravicalymene Overview

Gravicalymene is a genus of calymenid trilobites from the Silurian Period. Fossils are known from Europe and North America, where they occur in marine sedimentary rocks. The genus has a strongly built exoskeleton, including a broad glabella, and many specimens are preserved enrolled, with the head and tail folded toward one another. Gravicalymene is useful for studying Silurian calymenid anatomy, defensive enrollment, and regional trilobite distributions.
