Eramoscorpius brucensis

It was officially named as a new genus and species in 2015 based on well-preserved fossils found in Ontario, Canada. It dates back to the Silurian period, making it over 400 million years old.

This ancient scorpion is interpreted as an early semi-terrestrial form, providing crucial clues about how marine arachnids transitioned to land. Its fossilized anatomy shows adaptations for both aquatic and terrestrial environments.

The fossils were uncovered in the Bruce Peninsula region of Ontario, which gives the species its name. During the Silurian period, this specific geographic area was covered by a shallow, tropical sea.

This prehistoric scorpion was relatively small, likely measuring only a few centimeters in total length. Its compact size was typical for early scorpion species navigating the complex ecosystems of the Silurian period.
