Great Geyser

The Great Geyser is a named hydrothermal feature located within Yellowstone National Park in the state of Wyoming. Yellowstone was famously established by the United States in 1872 as the country's first national park.

Predicting eruptions for specific geysers in Yellowstone can be difficult, but visitor centers often provide daily estimates for the park's most prominent features. Geysers like the Great Geyser rely on complex underground thermal activity that dictates their eruption schedules.

Like other geysers in Yellowstone, the Great Geyser is powered by volcanic heat from beneath the Earth's crust. Water seeps into the ground, is heated to boiling, and eventually erupts through surface vents due to building pressure.

The water inside Yellowstone's hydrothermal features typically reaches temperatures near the boiling point of water at high altitudes, which is around 199 degrees Fahrenheit. This extreme heat is what drives the spectacular eruptions seen throughout the park.
