Grigory Zinoviev was a Russian Bolshevik revolutionary and Soviet politician who became one of Vladimir Lenin’s close associates. He chaired the Communist International, or Comintern, from 1919 to 1926 and was a major figure in early Soviet party leadership before losing power in conflicts with Joseph Stalin. Arrested and convicted in the 1936 Moscow Trial, he was executed that year.
