Gushteengiri

description Gushteengiri Overview

Gushteengiri, also transliterated gushtingiri, is a traditional form of wrestling associated with the Tajik people. Competitors wear a yaktak, a short wrestling jacket, together with a belt that provides a prescribed gripping surface during bouts. Organized competitions regulate the jacket, belt, scoring, and throwing actions, making the sport distinct from unjacketed wrestling styles. It is practiced by wrestlers in Tajikistan and in international events using the same tradition.
