description Hackmanite Overview
Hackmanite is a variety of sodalite known for tenebrescence, the temporary development or strengthening of color after exposure to ultraviolet light. The color change can fade when the material is left in ordinary light, although the strength and duration vary among specimens. Hackmanite may appear white, gray, pink, violet, or blue and is collected both as a mineral specimen and as a gemstone. It was first identified in Greenland and is associated with sodalite-bearing rocks.
