Hairy Snail (Trochulus hispidus)

description Hairy Snail (Trochulus hispidus) Overview

The hairy snail, Trochulus hispidus, is a small air-breathing land snail in the family Hygromiidae and is widespread in Europe. Its depressed shell is commonly about 7-8 mm across and may carry fine hairs on the outer surface; many hairs wear away as the shell ages, so older adults can appear smooth. It occupies a broad range of habitats, including gardens, hedgerows, grassland, and woodland, and its range extends from Ireland and France eastward to western Russia.
