The HAL HJT-36 Sitara is an Indian jet trainer developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for intermediate pilot training. The aircraft was designed to bridge the gap between basic trainers and more advanced front-line aircraft, and its development included a first flight in the early 2000s. It was intended to succeed the HJT-16 Kiran in Indian military training, although its program encountered extended development and certification delays.
