Halton Arp

description Halton Arp Overview

Halton Arp was an American astronomer whose observational work focused on unusual galaxies and their interactions. He compiled the Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies, published in 1966, which organized 338 galaxies by distinctive structures and remains a reference for studying galactic morphology. Arp also disputed the standard interpretation of cosmological redshifts, arguing controversially that some quasars were physically associated with nearby galaxies.
