Hangmen

description Hangmen Overview

Hangmen is a dark comedy by British-Irish playwright Martin McDonagh, first staged in 2015. Set mainly in a pub in northern England after the abolition of capital punishment for murder in 1965, it centers on former executioner Harry Wade, who is proud of his professional standing and resentful of Albert Pierrepoint's greater fame. The arrival of a menacing stranger draws Harry, his family, and the pub regulars into a story about guilt, reputation, and uncertain justice.
