Huangguoshu Falls

Located in Guizhou province, China, Huangguoshu is distinguished as the largest waterfall in Asia. It measures an impressive 77.8 meters (255 feet) high and spans 101 meters (331 feet) wide. During the rainy season, the roar of the water can be heard from miles away.

The waterfall is incredibly famous for its natural, 134-meter-long Water Curtain Cave (Shuiliandong) located directly behind the rushing wall of water. Tourists can actually walk behind the falls through this cave and look out through the curtain of water. This hidden pathway makes it a globally unique tourist attraction.

Yes, the falls are the centerpiece of the massive Huangguoshu Waterfall National Park, which is a protected area. The surrounding park features 18 smaller, distinct cascades and a diverse array of subtropical flora. It requires a full day to explore the interconnected network of trails and viewing platforms.

The surrounding lush, subtropical landscape of the Huangguoshu region was famously used as a primary filming location for the iconic 1986 Chinese television adaptation of "Journey to the West". The Water Curtain Cave served as the visual inspiration for the home of the Monkey King. This cultural connection is heavily promoted in the park.
