Ibanez AW54

The Ibanez AW54 is part of the Artwood series and features a solid Okoume top, which is a tonewood known for delivering a full, resonant tone similar to mahogany but with slightly brighter overtones. Unlike laminate tops found on cheaper guitars, this solid-top construction allows the wood to vibrate more freely, improving the instrument's sound as it ages. Its vintage-inspired dreadnought design is built entirely with durable steel strings.

The standard Ibanez AW54 is an entirely acoustic model and does not feature a built-in pickup or preamp system. If you want to plug into an amplifier or PA system, you will either need to install an aftermarket soundhole pickup or look at the AW54CE model. The CE variant is the same guitar but includes a cutaway body shape and Ibanez AEQ-SP2 electronics.

The AW54 features a comfortable, slim mahogany neck that is highly playable for both beginners doing heavy strumming and advanced players utilizing fingerpicking techniques. The fretboard is made of laurel or rosewood (depending on the year of manufacture) and features standard 20 frets with traditional acrylic dot inlays. Its robust build and smooth action make it an excellent entry-level choice.

The AW54 utilizes standard plastic bridge pins, which hold the steel strings securely into the wooden bridge. While functional, many players eventually upgrade these pins to bone, Tusq, or ebony to improve the guitar's sustain and transfer string vibration more efficiently to the solid Okoume top. The pins are completely standard size, meaning finding replacements at any music store is very easy.
